Is it ever appropriate to decrease or increase the resolution of an image in Photoshop? Why or why not? What file types do you think changing resolution would be the most apppropriate/inappropriate for?

    If there are vectors involved, increasing the resolution will have no negative effects except a larger file size.

    Decreasing the resolution should never be done to originals. Copies intended for low-resolution uses, like the web, are fine to downscale.

    Yes, of course. To put an image on your desktop, you would need to change the resolution. And if you're emailing it, decreasing the resolution would decrease the file size and make sending easier. There's many times when it would come in handy, and Photoshop is perfect for such a job.
