The root of the problem: I previously had the PS3 connected to my LCD Samsung TV through the HD socket and the side socket (three colours). I tried to connect the ps3 to another LCD HD TV but there was no picture or sound due to previously setting the PS3

Thank you Patti Jo, just had a look and it says to hold down the power button for 5 seconds in order to go back to the default settings, I will try when I get home. If it doesn't work i'll pull what little hair i do have out!

Just to confirm, if you do have the same problem as stated above, switch on the power so the red light is on and then hold power button until a prompt comes up on the screen. I am relieved that my PS3 is alive and well again!

Your ps3 thinks it's outputting to a different few pins on the PS3 Multi-Out, or to HDMI. When the PS3 is off, i.e. the red light in the front is on, hold the power until you hear a second beep, this means it is reset to output on all available channels, and will work again. This will reset your theme and any video or audio output settings you had previously configured.
