I believe one of the things is that the same type of geological deposits or makeup are found on both.

My guess is that they look a lot like pieces of a puzzle. The east coast of South America looks like it was once joined with the west coast of Africa.

It's not, by itself. It was known for centuries that the continents fit together. The confirming evidence, however, comes from detailed comparisons of the rocks and fossils on the two continents.

Same cartography, same geology, same fossil record... it's pretty obvious. Continental drift has been accepted for well over 50 years now.
