For me, getting a tattoo or piercing in an odd place like my lip would show disrespect for my body. It is not like that for everyone, but I don't feel a need to stand out in this way. Does it mean my character is better than yours? Absolutely not. I do tend to judge on cleanliness, however. Self-respect could equate to respect for others. If you don't brush your teeth, shampoo your hair, or wear deodorant, it could say something about you.

I don't know about 'dubious'. Ear (Earlobe) piercings have been more traditionally accepted for many years. As fashion comes and go and aesthetics change, piercings in other body parts are becoming more mainstream, although they have a long way to go in becoming universally embraced.

I had a friend who I'd known my entire life (really...our sister's would walk us in strollers when we were babies)...34 years at the time, who told me I was no longer allowed in her home because I had gotten my tongue pierced as it made me a bad example as a parent. (I did reply to her that she was the bad example showing her kids to judge me by my piercing alone...I was the same person I was the day before I had it done and I was ok with her then...she hasn't spoken to me at all since). I think it's ridiculous that people act that way, but it's their loss as they may miss out on a lot of good friendships because of their closed mindness.

no idea coz anyone who does that is a bit thik amnd if they are your friend then they should like you the way u are

Ear piercing is pretty common, and multiple piercings in our culture (modern U.S.) have been fashionable since the 1970's. But tattoos, unusual piercings, facial piercings, and so on — to a lot of people, those look like self-mutilation and/or a rebellious political statement instead of beauty enhancement, and that might make those people "dubious" about you.

Because having pierced ears is considering a norm in our society. Having body piercings or extensive tattos are not. It's going against the grain of society and people see those who 'go against the grain' to be dubious.

I think some people just have a closed mind, more than others, if that's the way they think then so be it. I just had my tongue pierced and my bellybutton re-done, but I did it because I wanted to, not to join the fad. I think doing things for attention is ridiculous, but if you want a piercing or tattoo because you like them then go for it! Just know risks and possible consequences. =D

It's consider out of the norm. It's sad to say but the majoity still wins and always seems to be normal.

I have well a lot of tattoos and I've run into this. (I used body paint in the picture) I work at a bank right now and they won't let me anywhere near a customer because I might offend them. Everyone of my tattooes means something to me. I don't really give a crap who else likes it, but it has created certain issues. I'm trying to go into IT and no one wants to take me seriously because of my appearance. People in general judge others entirely too much by there appearance. Your appearance doesn't control who you are. Your brain and heart do!
