Has anyone noticed how utterly useless this website is?....whenever someone asks an important question, it never gets answered but questions like "Does anybody else here eat spoonfulls of whipped cream? Or am I weird?" do?

i must admit i have asked some serious and genuine questions and they havnt been answered..which is a little frustrating, there are some questions which are either really irrelivant or pointless... however,some are fun to answer and are good conversation starters, there are nice people here. and having said this, the questions i have had answers for have been really helpfull...so i wouldnt say its totally useless :)

Yes, this web site is mostly just teenagers having fun with each other, but I log on anyway. Some of questions and answers these kids post makes me laugh so hard I almost have a hernia.

go and have a look at yahoo ...then come back and compare which is useless...lol... as for questions people like fun questions and will always answer them first and also maybe your questions are TOO deep and meaningful and only some ABers will bother with them and also they just could be so technical that it will take time to find an ABer who will know the answer

Wow Marshall if you have only just noticed you must have been away quite a while. Serious questions are always struggling to get answers now, the base of the site seems to have shifted.

I think there are many important questions that get answered. I guess it just depends on the perspective of the different people. I don't mind a little "fluff" every now and then. Can't be dead serious 100 percent of the time.

I guess you haven't been here too long because many serious questions get answered, we just enjoy a little fun too!

And one shouldn't forget that the site is set up with a search engine. If you have a particular question your seeking answers for. Try the top of each page on the site and type the question in under search for answers. If it's already been asked you can search for the answer needed. If not you get the rare opportunity to be the first to ask!

I must have missed the ones you are talking about because I have seen great questions that brings all kinds of opinions and great answers to them. The other questions that I call fluff questions are easy and fun. I don't consider this site useless at all. Just because a few questions don't get answered in a timely fashion or maybe not at all doesn't render this site useless.

That is kind of true. That's why I like it though. Who would stick around if it was total serious-ness 24/7? I surely wouldn't be on here every day. :)

The site isn't really about knowledge per say. If you want an answer to a specific question that is factual it's easy to Google and find an answer (or to do that in any number of ways on the internet). This site is primarily about viewpoints. It's always good to have a lot of references about things. The more references you have about something, the less ignorant your viewpoint is going to be.

I guess when it started out it was meant as a Q & A forum (hence the name). But it has morphed into more of a 'conversationbag'. I like it, regardless. There's such a broad cross section of people using it, which to me is part of the fun.

Looks like there are many of us out there who love to share thoughts and ideas regarding several topics. We love to hear and be heard on all kinds of subjects. This is not necessary or exactly a a place to find specific technical information. In other words, this is not a useless website. It is a very interesting one.

Well, I prefer your whip cream example to "Here is a question I already know the answer to, and I am quizzing you" which I think I've seen here and have seen on other sites. Sure, it's been useless for my chess question. But so was the wikipedia chess entry. but for right and wrong, is this legal, does this number in a recipe sound right--- this is far more useful than wikipedia, for instance.

Hate to say it but thats very true. While this site is very helpful for small personal questions, Many important questions go unanswered. Truth be told sometimes I have to go to yahoo answers if I actually need a good answer that has to do with computers, cars, or something like that.

I've noticed questions that are political and controversial a lot of times don't get answered. I don't think this website is useless but I think it is an escape and sometimes people come here to clear their mind and not have to think so much. I think those questions are to cheer people up and distract the author from the problems in their life.

I don't consider this site "useless" by any means, but admittedly, I was SHOCKED that my question of "Did you attend your HS Prom?" got 94 points - the most of any question I have ever asked (and I ask A LOT of questions). I think that question, in my mind, was probably the least important question I ever asked. It was sort of eye opening.

Well, I can't completely agree here. Serious questions DO get answers. Some quickly and some later and some even much later. It sometimes seems that people like to chat w/ each other more than to solve their problems. I actually didn't get some of conversational questions answered and have gotten answers to serious questions like cat flu, linux operating system, relationship advice, how to lose weight etc. So maybe I don't consider it useless. It's just that sometimes it pisses me off when I see more and more of these kind of questions that u have mentioned and lack of the serious ones.

I think a lot of the best questions answered here are EMOTIONAL and OPINIONATED... Technical? Not much so. But that's what makes it great here you can make friends about their beliefs

I don't remember seeing anything in the rules saying we have to only answer questions that you think are useful. When did they put that in there, the rascals? Will you link the questions we can answer, so we can make you happy? I will probably also keep on answering questions you don't link, so don't get mad.

I guess I was too busy answering good questions and having fun with fluff now and then to even notice how useful this site is. I don't know what qualifies as an important question, other than if it's someone own personal question that they feel isn't being answered well enough. And I can't imagine that I've answered almost 20,000 questions of just fluff, especially since most of my answers aren't even in the Outside the Bag category but are in Home and Garden, Health, and Food and Dining.

That there are more answerers for such easy questions than for a difficult one, is normal. 4) I answer a lot of educational questions, but I am not sure if they are so important. Anyway, this site is what its users make it.
