Will there come a time, when paper currency in America will be extinct? will plastic credit and debit cards eventually take over as America's form of purchasing and payments?

I could see it happening. I use my cards for everything.. I hardly ever use cash. The closest to paper i use is a check.. and i only write two a month

I don't believe so. Some people still write checks even though it's considered archaic by today's standard of check cards (debit cards). There's just something about currency that's comforting to some people. Besides, How would one drop change into the Salvation Army kettles around Christmas time? How would the Tooth Fairy leave money under the pillow? How would grandmothers be able to give their grandchildren money when they visit? How would the homeless panhandle? ...and so on and so forth. There are still merchants out there who deal only in cash outside of the normal set of flea market sellers and thrift stores.
