  • IMO... the ratings system is there for a reason. And sometimes I think it's too lenient.
  • I did when I was ten.
  • It depends on the movie, the parents and the child.
  • I did when I was 8, much less 10. The ratings are skewed so badly that one really shouldn't depend on them. For example, the least bit of nudity gets it a R rating, but any amount of rampant violence can still allow PG-PG13 ratings.
  • They are just suggestions and it's really up to the parent and the parent takes responsibility. I know my parents didn't care and by the time I was 5, I watched more than a 5-year old's share of gory horror movies and war movies. I don't think it's affected me too much, I'm still very sweet and nice to people but I have heard of other people who have not turned out the same way.
  • I did, I am not an axe murderer. I saw Terminator at 8 and adored it. Same about 2 and 3 but that's off topic. Besides ratings are bizarre. I don't know so much now as I never check them being 29 odd but I recall from when I was young that guns, killing, violence etc merited a 15 (UK rating) but as soon as sex were involved 18+ only. Hmmmm..... Sex bad, killing GOOD! :) I always remember two errr "ladies" from the National Viewers and Listeners Association complaining "of course it's all sex nowadays. Ad of course sex leads to violence!" I think she had revealed more about herself then she intended ;) Besides as my partner just pointed out the News is as bad and that is real.
  • If your child is more of a responsible typa and can take these bad things that can be in an R movie normally and wont use any of that language and actions, then he should be able to watch an R movie. If hes OK at doing this, then you should only let him watch up to a PG13 movie. If he takes all this stuff seriously then he should only watch PG or G.
  • it depends on the movie
  • LOL. When I was 10 I watched 18 horrors. Uhm, it would give a 10 year old nightmares, but after a year or two, you realise how fake they are. :)
  • No. That's why they are rated that way.
  • Na, they have ratings for a reason. My brother is now 13 and he was allowed to watch whatever he wanted. He now curses, talks about the boobs he saw in movies and talks like cartman from south park. Not saying its all from movies, he probably gets some from school but at home you can help what he does. I say wait til he's of age.
  • Depends on the child. Parents usually know how well thier children can handle some shows and others just don't pay attention. If it is your child and you are unsure. Maybe watch the movie before hand. You might get a better idea if your child can handle it.
  • I don't let my 12 or 10 year old watch PG-13 movies and definitely not R movies. It's a choice I make.
  • Up to the parents, but when my kids are 10 they will not be watching movies like that unless I've seen them first and am OK with it.
  • It's the parents decision. I watched both at that age. :)
  • If you want your 10 year old to be into sex ,porn and at drugs at an early age ....id ont see why not!!!!!!!!!
  • Ten years ago I would have said, yeah they'll be ok, however I think that R ratings are getting more and more relaxed on what is considered explicit. So at this point of time, i'd say no i wouldnt let them watch those movies.
  • i watched those when i was 5 i wouldn't worry about it.
  • I couldn't care less what your kid does, really. However, mine won't be. She also won't be smoking at 15 or drinking at 17. AND, this one is for dilly-darned sure... she will NOT run for President of the United States at age 32!!!!!
  • There are alot of R movies and some PG13 movies that are just so full of stuff NO ONE needs to be putting into their heads, (specially not kids and impressionable teenagers.) The movie industry is the real school-educating the people, what is seen on the movies soon becomes the normal and acceptable behaviour, and that is not always a good thing!!!! I was watching a PG13 movie myself last night and turned it off horrified!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I did. I think I turned out alright.
  • Some 10 year olds can watch a PG-13 movie. I would not let a 10 year old watch an R rated movie.
  • PG-13: I think it depends on what the parents thing about the movie, and what the circumstances are (whether it's being watched in school, or why the rating is PG-13, etc.) R: Personally, I can't think of any good reasons why a 10 year old would need to watch an R-rated movie, but again, it's a matter of what the parents think.
  • My 10-year old doesn't like anything below XXX total adult...Do I have a problem here? :-)
  • I think that the parent should make the choice on the particular movie. Now if a person smokes in the movie that is not a proven villain the movie is automatically R. This means if 100 dalmatians and the Incredibles where released now they would be R. The parents should figure out what should and should not be seen and pick movies by that.
  • No, a PG 13 movie today is equivalent to a 1992 rated R movie...I cant remember the source, but I did a paper on movie ratings a couple of years ago. I guess that could mean that a rated R movie is like a 1992 NC-17 movie.
  • I think its ok for 13 them to watch PG-13 movies. I don't know about rated R ones
  • Of course. Why not?
  • The reason why they put PG 13 is becauss they may contain something that could scare the child, or there's something unpleasant. I'd rather let the child watch Nemo or something than to teach him/her something not needed.
