  • As this appears to be a homework question, I will not give you the answer. I will, however give you some hints that should lead you to the answer. First of all, what is the common atmospheric gas that is necessary for things to burn? (Hint: it is mentioned by name in another question that you asked.) Second, what most people think of when they think of sugar is sucrose. So look up the formula for sucrose. (There are other sugars, but they are all made of the same three elements.) Finally, what compounds will be formed when the individual elements that make up sugar are combine with the gas? (Note, you are already told that one of the compounds is water. So, what is the other?) If you can answer my questions, then you should be able to get to the answer of your question.
