  • my opinion..it is disgusting. The Japanese government should be looking for other ways to help the whalers.
  • it's horrible...they obviously lost their fear from that time we ruined so many lives with one bomb
  • Not defending the Japanese at all, but they are NOT breaking any international agreement. Japan and Norway refused to sign the agreement.
  • I think the senseless slaughter of whales is very cruel and unnecessary :(
  • I am sympathetic to the humpers, but don't know enough about the treaty or its signers to condemn Japan. I'll do some reading on the subject, until then, I'll acccept the comments that Japan is not breaking a treaty, they are fishing. Has the population of humpers been endangered? Addendum: The best article I found, most balanced, discusses whales, and humpbacks as well. It is worthwhile to note that Norway and Iceland ignore the moratorium as well. Let's spread the grief around to all irresponsible parties. The moratorium has a loophole allowing for scientific harvesting. Is this a legitmate effort? I have my doubts. I am perhaps more concerned for the 1,000 whales they harvest every year, than the fifty humpers they plan to take this year. EXCERPT: Japan kills more than 1,000 whales a year in the Antarctic and also the Pacific Ocean using a loophole in an international moratorium that allows catching whales for research. Only Norway and Iceland defy the moratorium outright. This year, Japan is expanding the catch to include 50 humpback whales, which are celebrated for their complex songs and acrobatic displays. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hsUYj6irzB8-3UhgADsZHl-AVtpA
  • My opinion of those who allow and support this practice, including consumers, is not high. I don't care about any agreement, or whether or not anyone signed it. What I care about is that these mammals were hunted to near extinction, have just only recently had their numbers begin to recover, and are still listed as a "vulnerable" species.
  • SAVE THE WHALES COLLECT THE WHOLE SET
  • They are whaling Humpbacks? No way! They are my most favoirte animals! My opinion is that this should stop. I love whales and so should they! If whales are going to be extinct, the world is off to an end for me.
