  • In my experience, no, this is not the case. Most likely, the question simply hasn't been read by anyone, including the original poster. The person posing the question was probably not a regular Answerbag user, and after he/she posted the question, they simply forgot about it. The fact is, most questions (and answers) go by unread, because of the shear size of Answerbag. If you aren't looking for a particular question, you aren't really that likely to ever read any given question (unless it happens to be a "selected" question. And another thing, it certainly doesn't equate to a "bad" rating. People here on Answerbag certainly aren't afraid to voice their dissaproval of an answer!
  • Apart from the valid point that the answer possibly hasn't been read yet(proved by the fact that a lot of the smaller categories such as "Alternative Diets" have a lot of unrated answers in them) I think most of the answers that attract a lot of ratings (good or bad) are quite lengthy, provide a new perspective, or an unusual way of looking at things that makes people sit up and take notice, thinking "What an original answer, it deserves 100%", or conversely "I'm outraged- not useful!" - there are too many correct answers for everyone to rate every single one of them correct. I often find that answers that are just correct, but short, and give no extra info are less likely to be rated than something more well written and entertaining to read- this holds particularly true if there are already a number of good answers to the same question, causing yours to be overlooked. You could also consider, in more obscure categories, that not many people are in a position to judge whether your answer is actually any good or not, as they don't know enough about the topic themselves. Generally if your answer is bad, someone will tell you so sooner or later- don't worry!
