  • Yes, I think that's true, but I see your point about that phrase going sour. People only want to believe that when it has to do with something getting better.
  • Nope. I think sometimes things JUST happen period.
  • There are people who try to learn something from every experience..so for them, there was a reason. I think that is a very healthy way to go through life, since there are many things over which we have no control..so to find a purpose in them becomes a very valuable tool in coping with life..which often comes at you from every direction at once. :)
  • Yes because there is no other explanation that I can think of
  • I believe that 100% that what is ...is meant to be.
  • There are other possibilities: For example - something can happen for a task, or by chance or two thing can happen simultaneously for a common reason or for more reasons.
  • No comfort in it for me because I know things just happen sometimes. You can be in the wrong place and terrible things can happen, no planned life lesson, no destiny, just a terrible occurrence. Yes, you can learn from them, I try to, but there are other ways to learn besides heartbreak and pain and agony.
  • Sort of; if you can learn from it...it can mean success
  • I think that things do always happen for a reason, but that these reasons aren't always very good. So, no, I'm not too comfortable with it. I'd rather things just happen the way I want the to...which is unsurprising, I guess.
  • Not really. I think you can find enough details to cobble into a reason when something happens and you need a reason for it.
  • I am not a fatalist and so the answer must be no!
  • Well, of course everything happens for a reason, we just can't always really see the reason that some things happen. I for one, like to have reason and some organization in my life. It just makes me feel more comfortable.
  • Yes, and the reason is because someone causes it to happen. By accident or intentional someone intervenes. if someone did not cause it then it was nature that caused it. There is no high power watching over us to cause us to wreck our car so we can meet that special someone at the body shop. No one to cause us to lose one job so we can be available for a better one.
  • No I don't think so! Shit happens!!
  • Yes, and what doesnt kill me sure makes me stronger in one part or another.
  • Yeah I guess there is always a reason for things happening.
  • That's why people say it in the first place, comfort, and comfort a lot of the time is just lieing. There's more than one reason for a reason, nature means just the way things are made. Yes, that thing happened, it's a question of are you really going to deal with it or say an over-said and over-used line. Livia
  • I believe that....
  • Yes, if you mean "every event has cause(s)". No, if you mean "every event has a purpose". Nothing happens without cause -- even random events occur because the conditions are suitable for them to occur. But purpose is another matter altogether -- purpose implies intention, and that's the domain of the mind and language. I intend to say something comprehensible here, that's the purpose. Purpose is about objectives, and that's something that's only meaningful in the context of "active intelligent agents" (humans or animals). So if an earthquake knocks my house down, it happens for a reason: the pressure on the geologic plates nearby was too great and they shifted. But it happens for no reason too: the earthquake isn't trying to send me a message, or produce a mountain, or just shake things up because it's in a bad mood.
  • i am very much a believer. frankly, with the things that have happened in my life, if i didn't believe that, i wouldn't have any hope. can't live without hope, hokey as it sounds.
  • Everything happens due to preceding events and conditions. It is foolish to believe that everything happens for an "ultimately good" reason. However, if you want to make lemonade, remember to bring your OWN sugar. Life may not provide that with the lemons.
  • Yes thats one of the things i believe in, that everything that happens has a background, i mean that certain things have to happen before anything else does, i have no idea if this makes sense to you but it does to me.
  • Abso-groovy-loutly I can sit there and ask why I had to marry the good for nothing I did, or, I can sit there and know that I had to marry him so that I could be 100% clear what I dont want and wont accept in any other relationship in the future. The same goes for anything that happens, good or bad. People in our lives are here to teach us lessons. The people we dont like are there to teach us how not to be. The people we do like are there to teach us hoe to be. Also, when we meet people we dont like, the thing we dont like about them is usually something we dont like about ourselves, if we're honest
  • Yeah, and the reason is that I let it happen instead of making something better happen. If we are talking negative. If we are talking on the positive, Yes, the reason being the choices I have made usually
