Hon, I am sorry to say, there is no picture here. Unless you own an invisible dog, which would really save you money, they wouldn't eat you out of house or home.:)

I would guess brindle Pit Bull and Yellow Lab. Does he have a tail? If tail is not cropped is the hair on his tail long or short?

He looks to have some boxer in him, but the face is something else... I can't really get a good idea, because his body isn't all that visible. His face is almost a shepherd face. He's a pretty boy.

Without seeing an actual photo that includes a full side shot (standing) and a standing front shot (rear would be nice too) it's a hard call... I'd guess Mastiff could be part of it (they do come in brindle) Pitt bull, Lab (over the past 5 years for some odd reason a lot of lab breeders are breeding for much larger labs! I'm not sure where that's going to go with the AKC standard, if they'll raise it or not)...I'm not seeing GSD..the Blue eye could come from Border Collie..or Australian Shepard... He looks like his temperament is a total winner...a real love-bucket..100% sweetie-pie would be an accurate guess as to "what he is!"

He looks an awful lot like the Pit Bull/Lab cross that my mother-in-law had. He was a sweetheart. I am glad you have given this beautiful guy a home. : )

He looks like a Black Mouth Cur, Mountain Cur, or Cur mix. (Old Yeller was a Mountain Cur.) They're really good dogs, although I've never owned one myself. The most important thing is that your family looks like they love it already.
