Should prison inmates do city work for free?

Community service? Damn right! Let them do something productive while in jail, rather than sitting around rotting, waiting to get out and thinking of other ways to land themselves in jail again.

Federal Inmates should work for federal agencies. State inmates should work for the state agencies. Local trustees probably do work for local departments. As for doing it for free...I think not. Is 37 cents an hour too much?

yes. they should and they should also have to do things like community service for people who can't do it themselves. paint houses for elderly, mow lawns, etc. they should also make them build houses for low income and work in places like soup kitchens and other places for the poor.. since most of these people are probably there for stealing and things.. they can find out what it's like to really be "poor" and give back. I think it's sick that prisoners live better than US citizens who follow the laws do.. cable TV, rec. room, gyms. they get free college educations (must be nice) and lets not forget the healthcare that I pay for and the fact that IF they go to the hospital with a hang nail they get seen first over a heart attack victim. and then they want to holler "we prisoners are getting cruel and unusual punishment". a prison close to here recently started providing prisoners better and more costly food because the prisoners said that it was cruel that they had to eat that had no taste and was so cheap. hey, it's not fair that I have to live on hot dogs when I want steak either and I am not a criminal.
