Mosconi. Fats was really not much more than a trick shot artist.

I used to play in big money tournies and have studied the history of such things extensively. The first two responders are correct. Mosconi was a much more accomplished player. Fats was a hustler, a gambler, and in many ways a con artist. Mosconi was a pure player. Like many other sports the nostalgia is wonderful but the truth is neither of them could play with a champion of today and not get their ass handed to them. I'm pretty certain neither of them could crack the top ten of the ladies circuit today, even on a bet. The thing is Mosconi would be dejected, Fats would find a way to take all their money, and hump 3 of them in the same night.
