1) It's gets a little slippery feeling. 2) The cat won't eat it. Instead of purchasing a pound, I now get 1/2 lb. I would rather run out than have to throw some away.

Take a sniff. Look at it, feel it. If it doesn't smell, look, feel like you expect, toss it.
