  • Yes, the APU system is usually shut down shortly after the engines are started. When running, the engines provide all of the power that the APU was previously taking care of. Some APU's are not able to run while in flight, but have no reason to be running. Also note, the APU is normally unable to be restarted during flight, so if an engine shuts off, a windmill restart must be done.
