  • The Polynesian Cultural Centre is a must see. Do the day there and book the dinner show, it's well worth it. On the North shore there is some pretty spectacular scenery and you can see it silently by air in a glider. I can't recall the name of the outfit, but they operated modified SGS 233's that sat 3. Up near there is also Waimaia (sp?) Botanical Park. I'm not a gardener, but even I found it interesting. There's also the banzai pipeline up near there that the surfers love. Depending on when you go it may be ferocious or tame. The aquarium, located on the east shore ( not that far from the cultural centre) was also quite a sight. They have a central tank there that you walk down a ramp, starting at surface level to the bottom, seeing the different animals in the areas they inhabit. If I recall correctly, the shark exhibit is at the bottom. :) Pearl Harbour is a must. There is a trip out to the Arizona memorial and while you wait for your boat, an excellent museum by the pier. They have Two submarines there as well. One, a Japanese sub that is cut away to show the interior and the other an American Sub, that you can take a self guided tour through the whole boat. I never got out to Punch Bowl, but that's where the US Pacific cemetery is. In Waikiki proper, there are Luaus held by some of the hotels on the beach at night and during the day you can wander over to the Pink Lady (Royal Hawaiian) to watch the Penguins stroll around. You can also catch the Atlantis submarine near there. You catch a catamaran from there out to the sub where you and 40 others go down to at most 150 feet to check out some wrecks, a jetliner , the remains of the reef and you may just see some divers and sharks. It's not to far from there to the old Hawaiian Palace called the Ioni (sp?) or something like that. They filmed the interior episodes of the old TV show Hawaii Five 0 there and it was the last Royal residence on the island. On Prince Kuhio beach in Waikiki, you'll find the beginner's surfing and body boarding I can't think of much more, other than a walk up Diamond Head (there's a trail and the last stairway is a steep one) but the view from the bunkers up there is amazing. If shopping is your thing, then hit the International. It starts right at the waterfront near Prince Kuhio Beach and goes north for quite a stretch. You can find just about anything in there. Don't forget to buy some Kona Coffee while you're there, to take home. It's dirt cheap in the Islands, but can go for up to $36 a pound on the mainland. Once you've tasted it, you won't call anything else coffee again. I still order two pounds every Xmas. I think the Zoo, at the east end of the main drag on Waikiki was about the last place I stopped before leaving, it was ok, but not as good as some I've visited. That's about it for Oahu. I did the above and left for Maui.
  • A tie between Pearl Harbor and snorkeling in Hanauma Bay.
