  • I get so overwhelmed when I go into a bricks and mortar. I need a million dollars when I go in one just because I am interested in to many things and they are all there! Unfortunately I have to pick the one thing I went in for , and maybe one more thing while I am here. So I do the amazon thing. It narrows my vision to what I can take in. (and what my pocket book says I can take in) Just don't laugh when you look at my wish list.
  • Each has its own benefits. I shop at a bricks and mortar store for the atmosphere and the ability to browse. I also like the instant gratification of going there and coming out with the book I want. I buy from Amazon when I can't find a book in the store and can purchase several items to make it worthwhile. There is also the added benefit of being able to buy just about anything from them. I once ordered a book and a yogurt maker.
  • I like to go to the bookstores and hang out for awhile, looking to see what new things they got in over a nice cup of cappo or green tea.
  • I love browsing at BArnes and Noble but I usually buy most of my books from eBay or Amazon. I love buying used books or new from the resale sellers there. I love a great bargain.
  • I prefer Barnes and Noble...it's much better to be able to pick up the book and leaf through it. much more satisfying.
  • I buy books from Amazon.co.uk and their delivery times are phenomenally fast from Britain to the little Atlantic island I live on.
  • Amazon is cheaper, and easier to find what you're looking for. Especially with the rise in the Canadian dollar these days...traditional bookstores aren't lowering their prices at ALL, while places like amazon are cutting deals for Canadians.
  • Depends on what I'm buying. I often get my uni course books from Amazon because they are a LOT cheaper than in book stores. Novels to pass my time with I normally buy from charity shops. I normally go to book stores without a specific purchase in mind - if I see something I fancy I might buy it.
  • I personally like bookstores better. I don't like big ones, like Barnes and Noble or Borders, as much as Vromans, a smaller, but still well stocked, bookstore near my house. I like the authenticity, and being able to just browse, as mentioned above. And, after reading the back of the book, if I'm still not sure I'll like it, I can always read the first chapter or so. Plus, once you get it, you can read it instantly; with Amazon, you have to wait for it to get there. It usually takes about a week to get to my house. Also, on Amazon, you have to kind of know what you want, which is not usually the case with me. I like just looking for something that catches my interest, but you have to search for certain things on Amazon. I usually only buy from them if I'm preordering a book or something... yeah. Anyway. I prefer the bookstore.
  • I purchase most of my books at Amazon.com. Their prices are soooo much lower than other book retailers, and you can also purchase used and out of print books for CHEAP. The cheapest book I've purchased new at Amazon was for 1 penny! (plus shipping of $3.99, but hey, for $4.00 I got a brand new book!)
  • I shop locally at small privatyely owned bookstores. I would never buy any from a major retailer.
  • Actually I buy the majority of the books I read at a local 2nd hand book store. The little guy running his own shop tends to have a wider variety of books that interest me. I can usually tell a really good book by the abuse it's taken during the course of it's life. And it might end up saving a tree or two in the process.
  • Amazon.ca.... because I can read reviews from readers about the book. I can find out about other books by the same author, read all about them and again the reviews by other readers.
  • I love all books, I like them from any kind of store on line or preferably so I can touch feel and smell the book. I like the small old bookstores best.
  • I prefer a bricks and mortar store. There is something lost over the internet. I enjoy the experience of shopping in stores for books. I like to see them, feel them. I like the atmosphere, sites and sounds. I find it easier to discover books from little known authors at a bricks and mortar store. Otherwise, how would I know they exist if I don't know their name in the first place? If I need to get a book I already know really quick and can't leave the house I use the net. Otherwise I go to a real store.
  • It depends on what I am buying. If I am just buying a paperback novel, then I prefer to go into the brick and mortar store because the price is not really going to be all that different and I can walk out with the book. On the other hand, when I a purchasing something in hardcover (especially if I am pre-ordering) it, I will often look for the best deal that I can find online. I did this with the Harry Potter books and got them at about the same time as everyone else without have to fight the crowds at the bookstores. However, more recently, I have taken a liking to eBooks. They don't require shelf space and I can load them into my PDA for easy access and portability.
