  • Common sense should prevail here. i would take my chances and go to court to explain. left exit ramps are rare, at least in my state. if you truly feel you were mistreated, go to court.
  • It's possible, if the lane and exit ramp overlap each other or it's confusing to the reasonalbly prudent driver. If you decide to go to court, take a picture of the lane and ramp. Chances are, though, it was clearly marked and you simply entered the lane too early.
  • Can you? Yes. Will you win? It depends on a lot of things. I have no idea what state you are in which makes things a bit trickier. I live in the Washington DC area and some (very few) ramps are designated for use by High Occupancy Vehicle- 2 or more passengers (HOV-2) drivers only and they are only open during rush hour. Was the exit a carpool/HOV only exit? If so, your chances of beating this ticket are slimmer. If the two overlapped, you have a better chance, and as somebody else suggested, you should take a photo of the exit ramp and carpool lane. If you have a good driving record, it wouldn't hurt to mention it either way. You can always try and hope for the best. Good luck.
