If your child is still sleeping well at night then i wouldn't stop the naps, but if they are having trouble sleeping at night, or not sleeping at night like they used to then I would stop him from having a nap in the day.

I think naps are good for children. They can get awful cranky at that age when they don't get a nap. Of course I think naps should be continued into adulthood!

It generally stops itself - sleep is controlled by an unconscious part of the brain, and most experts say that if you're feeling tired you should sleep (feeling tired is your brain telling you you need to sleep...) If your child is going to sleep on their own accord, it's probably because they're sleepy ; ) Thus, they should probably sleep. You should only really intervene if it starts disrupting his/her night-time sleep or something...
