Jacques Plante was the most well known goalie to wear a mask as everyday equipment. Plante got hit in the face and needed stitches and returned with his mask on. This was taboo back then as it was believed that the decreased range of vision would lead to more goals against. Plante's team went on an 18 unbeaten stretch and lost the only game in which he was not wearing the mask. After that he wore it for the remainder of his career.
