Because they are in the way between him and freedom!
-
Boredom or lack or things to wear down his/her teeth. You might want to my some chew blocks or get in some hard toys.
-
I think it's because its teeth don't stop growing and it needs something to chew on to wear them down. That at least is true of rodents.
-
all rabbits chew its there hobbie.
-
Because he doesn't have a metal cup to rattle along the bars J/k, I think wearing down his teeth sounds about right
-
He could be after the salts or bitter metallic minerals lacking in his diet or it could be boredom. Does he have lots of toys and chew sticks? Is he getting at least 2 cups of veggies per 6 lbs of his body weight? Does he have loose hay to nibble on and play with?
-
Mine do it when they want out. Also its nice to have something to chew. Throw some toilet paper rolls in there and they will have fun with those!
-
Rabbits need "hard" food to eat as well as soft food. They need the hard food to keep their teeth from growing too long. Always have something like carrots or nuts in the cage. They are chewing on the metal bars to keep their teeth down.
-
Your rabbits wants out or is doing it cuz they are bored. My bunnies do that when i come in the room or because they are trying to see if they can chew their way through it to get out of the cage. Give ur buns some play time and they will stop doing it.
-
iwan to just say somtin som imes my rabit licks on the metal bars
-
this is because their teeth are constently growing and growing and they need something to chew on.i would reccomend maybe buying a piece of flavoured wood for them to chew on because it could harm itself buying biting the metal bars onits cage.
-
1) Your rabbit needs to chew on something to keep his teeth from growing too long. Give him some wood to chew on prefferably from a fruit tree that has not been sprayed 2) Your rabbit is displaying a stereotypical behavior due to boredom from lack of stimulation, let him out his cage for an hour a day and get him a spayed female to keep him company.
-
My rabbit does that as well, but I think it's just for attention. He knows that to make him stop I will let him out to play, but that just lets him know it works, so he does it even more! I've tried pushing on his nose but he just bites me instead then. Anyone know how to stop him doing it?
-
their teeth never stop gorwing so to pass the time they wear them down.
-
They want toget out
-
whenever i walk in to the room my bunny chews on his cage. so they problaby want you or want to get out of the small space.
-
He chews on them because the teeth that rabbits have never stop growing so they need to chew on things. Chewing on metal bars mighg be a little unsafe for him. So you should give him something to chew on. You can either but him chew logs at your local pet store or just give him empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls
-
ive resuced rabbits for 18years and have MANY, the answer to your question is "BORDEN", you need to handle him regulay and boreden toys they can chew can been buyet
-
He wants out
-
stress can cause a rabbit to chew the bars. they need toys made of wood. no plastic. think of if it was you behind those bars with nothing to do. they also need human contact if they are alone as they are social animals.
-
My rabbit has started doing it and it gets lots of attention/ play time. Have bought him those 'boredom buster' bits of wood and he hates it! Throws it away from himself. Not sure if there is anything else to get his teeth to grind down on? Ceirah

It could be a few different things: Your rabbit wants out. If at all possible, rabbit-proof your home and let your rabbit out. If not possible, you must let your rabbit out and supervise him and play with him for at least 4 hours a day. Your rabbit is bored. Rabbits are social, fun-loving creatures and they need a lot of stimulation. You might consider trying to bond him with a new rabbit. You might consider spending more time with him yourself. You might consider buying him some toys. Different rabbits like different toys, so you'll have to do some experimentation with the toys, figuring out which kinds he likes, using your creativity to come up with new options, etc. On the House Rabbit Society there is a great article about play behaviour and toys: http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-6/chew-stick.html. Your rabbit is trying to wear his teeth down. Usually, a rabbit-appropriate diet with tons of fiber is enough to maintain a rabbit's teeth, but sometimes, for genetic reasons, rabbits develop spikes on their teeth. If your rabbit has a spike on his tooth, he may be chewing on the bars to try to break it off. A spike on his teeth can cut into his tongue or cheek and cause an ulcer that can get infected. This can be very painful for a rabbit and can cause shock and GI Stasis. Your vet should be checking your rabbit's teeth at his check-ups once or twice a year, but if you think he may have a spike you should bring him in asap, because they can develop quickly.

My answer would be, because she annoying!! Mine only does it when my boyfriend is around, I think she gets jealous!
-
your rabbit is very bored. this sounds mean but my rabbit does the same thing. rabbits are most active at night so you need to put extra toys in the cage. the way i got my rabbit to stop was suppying her with a digging box- i filled it with dirt or sand and you could plant some grass in it..once it grows that will entertain your rabbit!
