  • I don't think 99% of insane people realize they are insane; their insanity is just their natural persona.
  • Disregarding the various shading between the two, I think the severely insane don't know it. That's how they can weed out people who fake it. Someone faking it will say "I have delusions." An insane person doesn't know they are delusions.
  • I had it explained to me this way once. The person who sees aliens everywhere, will understand that they can not admit it to some people or they will get locked up. What they can't understand is why these insane people who don't see the aliens get to lock them up.
  • "I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it!"
  • I think an insane person can still understand that they are insane, can understand that their perception and thought processes are somewhat askew, in the same way that a stupid person can understand that they aren't the sharpest knife in the draw. The knowledge of their insanity/stupidity does not automatically render them sane/smart, like a moment of enlightenment. Obviously there are chronic cases of mental illness where the sufferer probably doesn't understand anything very clearly at all, but in the "average" case of mental illness I believe what I said above applies.
  • We all have "insane" moments even if it's just anger and nothing is carried out and we realise the insanity of it when we calm down so yes to both (I think) :o)
  • I am not insane! the voices tole me I saw not.
