Because too many people mistakenly believe that the US had more than a receiving end in the African slave trade, when fact of the matter is Africans sold other Africans to the Spanish, who routed the Africans through the Caribbean to the United States. Let's keep up on history, folks!

Africa, Spain and the UK played a very large part in the selling and transportation of slaves from the African Continent. William Wiberforce started the Anti Slavery Bill in the UK in 1806, I believe it actually became law in the late 1830s. The difference being that in the US slaves were used as farm labourers and on Stud farms to produce the perfect person for house servants, who sold for much higher prices. They still have books on pedigrees which is rather nauseating to imagine. It is very strange it should be categorized under one country.

Because most Americans aren't as aware that the institution of slavery has existed from before Ancient Egyptian times....re many countries and among all races and was not criminal, but an accepted practice.
