  • It apparently takes 5 seconds for germs on the floor to notice that food has landed and start jumping on. So if it's been on the floor less than 5 seconds before you pick it up, it's still OK to eat it.
  • When you drop something on the floor/ground, as long as you can grab it within 5 seconds it's okay to eat. Now, this doesn't apply to things like mashed patatos or ice cream. It does apply to Oreos, crackers, chips and such things as that. My dog can't tell time. She doesn't care if its been there for weeks, it's all good. Around here you have to be much faster than 5 seconds, the dog will grab anything that falls to the floor. Once on the floor it becomes the sole property of the resident dog. There are no exceptions and the dropper has no recourse against said dog. Resident dog retains all rights to floored food items whether discovery is immediate or delayed. If resident dog determins that food items left unattended on a table within reach of said dog, though not actually on the floor, items can be deemed abandoned, said item also becomes the sole property of dog.
