Why are there so few US troops in Afghanistan compared to Iraq?

The Brits have been handling Afghanistan up till now (but that's ending as the top brass have decided to pull out). Their presence allowed us to concentrate on Iraq.

The multinational construction firms are more interested in Iraq than Afghanistan, so the US has diverted troops to Iraq to do more damage.

They are about to send many more there in the next time and as McChristal said they want to send there more than 40.000 American and about 15.000 British troops for the first wave. And as British military leaders say they want to send there about another 100.000 British and American troops so it will be there a big affair the next weeks and months. And as America and Britain want to get out all other foreign troops of Afghanistan as soon as possible they have to enforce their own troops. Probably this will happen the next few weeks.

Obama and McChrystal want to send down up to 300.000 troops in the next months. And the British want to send another 50.000 or 100.000 troops. I think that will be enough for some time. So don't worry there will be soon more than enough US troops in Afghanistan and then McChrystal can kick out all the useless other foreign troops as he is permanently announcing.

It is hard to say what Mr.Obama is going to do and to decide. But quite clear it is that most European countries will pull out their troops there, especially as the US and British military leaders want to have all foreign troops out of Afghanistan. And if the Brits and Americans want to have all other foreign troops out of Afghanistan they must replace the foreign troops by their own troops and so they are forced to send more troops down there. For me this is a quite clear consequence. And if they want to win that war they will need definitively many more troops as they have now down there.

Mr.Obama should listen more to his generals. They are the experts and they all want to have a massive enforcement of British and American troops in Afghanistan and I hardly can understand why Mr.Obama is not following the well meant advices of his generals. If American has the will to win that war they will have to send many more troops as they did until now. The American army is one of the biggest armies in the world so that I can not understand where there could be any problem to the US to send some hundred thousand GIs to Afghanistan. In Vietnam they could do the same and meanwhile the US forces became much bigger as ever before. Send them down there and the war will be won in a few months.

There were so few US troops in Afghanistan compared to Iraq BECAUSE of Iraq... Bush took his eye off the ball, and placed Iraq as the priority despite the greater size, population and dispersion of that population of Afghanistan. That was stupid!
