Neither and both. True art reflects the artist, but artist being flighty metamorphesy (is that a word?) creatures that they are, are continously changing. So you hear that when so and so was in their X-phase they cut off their third toe and created a line of totally new visionary art from grass clippings. "I think it reflects the current resentment of the common man to an impersonal goverment" says Arty Marty the weathly high brow terpentine sniffer. "Oh yes, I feel the angst" says Morbid Mabel. And so it goes...
