The are actually thousands of tiny holes for bubs to feed from. Liken the nipple to your shower head, There are many holes for a better flow!

The breast does have many ducts where the milk flows out. The baby doesn't actually 'suck' to get the milk out; the baby suckles, which mean that the baby 'bites down' on the areola (the area around the nipple) and then swallows the milk that flows out. Thank goodness that babies usually has no teeth at birth!! http://www.komen.org/intradoc-cgi/idc_cgi_isapi.dll?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&ssDocName=BreastStructureAndFunction

I've never breast feed, but I'm gonna ask my mom about this

Believe me there are holes.....you just can't see them. Pressure or the stimulation of the nipple...what I mean is the sucking motion gets it to flow out. I used to get so full of milk when I was nursing my 5th child that when I bent forward to change his diaper....the milk would shoot out and I mean lots of it. IF you don't nurse the baby and even if you do, sometimes that just happens.
