Ethnic tensions. Differences in religion and language have caused the balkanization of Yugoslavia.

The ALbanian Muslims illegally immigrated into the regions north of Albania and were ravaging the are with crime, etc., as well as depleting resources. When the natives started pushing them out they got labeled with "ethnic cleansing" and were bombed by Clinton and NATO for it. THe Serbs were basically trying to protect their country from the invading illegal muslims into a Christian society, but the media will never tell you that.

The major cause of the wars in Yugloslavia is location. The area was caught between Russian dominated Eastern Europe and Roman dominated Western Europe, which was difficult enough, but then the whole thing was further complicated by the Ottoman invasions from the south. What started off as a battle between two titans got further heated after the 1100s when the two halves of Christendom got into a slanging match. Croatia sided with Latin Europe, Serbia with Orthodox Russia. And then the Ottomans force converted Bosnia, Kosovo and other enclaves. Cullturally, all of these groups are very close. Linguistically, they are close enough to be able to hurl insults at each other effectively. It is politics, making use of religion, that has sundered them.
