  • When is killing justified? To me it is revenge.
  • justice. Sometimes jailtime does not fulfil the need for compensation.
  • both "justice" is just a legal way of getting revenge
  • It is revenge, and states are justifying legalised murder
  • It is justice....when dealt fairly.
  • In my opinion Justice, When a peodophile can murder a child and get a life sentence which actually means he can be back on the streets stalking other children within 8/12 years it makes a nonsense of the punishment . The death penalty is justice. it does not matter if it is revenge.
  • It's the power of the government executing revenge and labeling it justice. Edit In my opinion the death applying the penalty is wrong if a crime was accidentally committed. The recipient and/or family of the crime victim most times are so hurt, they only think about revenge and what penalty would be justifiable to the criminal.
  • Justice. It lets the suspect get off easily, they don't have to live the rest of their life in guilt. If someone killed my wife or son, revenge would be letting him rot in hell his whole life, or letting me have at him for a few weeks. It is justice because the murderer feels fear, especially if he doesn't know where he's going after he dies. That fear is intense, and gives him a sense of what he caused in his victim(s).
  • My opinion: It should be neither. It should only be used to eliminate those who will always be a serious threat to the public. I also think that it is over used. The difficult part is deciding who will decide. The christian bible says that a man should be put to death for certain things. Religion aside, if a person is a serial killer, admits to it, and would pose a risk of escape, and a continued threat, they should be eliminated.
  • It is a method of both, and equally necessary as both. Justice is a form of bringing revenge for those who are victims of crimes, and protecting those who could be hurt from future crimes. Revenge is fully justifiable when it is protecting innocents and punishing a person for destroying the lives of others. Putting them in prison forever and making them disappear is less humane than the death penalty, not to mention several times costlier. There's nothing humane in locking someone up in prison and never letting them out, and it's just a burden on the taxpayers that the criminal has affected.
  • It is an exsercise in governmental power-proving and fear-instilling... it is revenge pretending to be fair justice... it also fails....
  • Justice for all, revenge for a few (and of course there's one guy it really sux for yo...).
  • Revenge is part of justice. Justice is said to have 3 parts: 1) Restitution, 2) Retribution, and 3) Rightful position. If you punish someone for their crimes, but the person is allowed to keep his ill gotten gains, that is not justice. If you allow a person to commit a heinous crime, and then give them a slight punishment in comparison to the crime that is not justice.
