  • As soon as she is late, you (as in 'both of you together') should get a test kit, or even better, a couple of kits, since the hormone levels that they test can take a while to build up. They are not expensive or intrusive and they will prevent many sleepless nights. Follow the instructions very carefully and beware of false negative results. Good luck.
  • A blood test is the most accurateand can even detect pregnancy before a missed period sometimes.
  • A blood test can detect pregnancy pretty much from the time you concieve. They test the hormone HCG which immediatly starts rising after conception. It is the most accurate test out there so yes!
  • Any test should be able to detect prenancy once your period is officially 'late'. The hormone hCG is produced by the cells that form the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. The egg must impant into the uterine wall before hCg is produced (not immediately following conception). hCG can first be detected by a normal blood test about a week after conception (and about a week before your period is due if you ovulate in the middle of a 28 day cycle) and about 10 days by the newer sensitive urine tests.
  • A blood test can pick up about a week after conception if you get a beta quantitative test.(tests for level of hormone) a beta qualititative(yes or no) will pick up about a week before you are late.
