I think it's more like "this is a country whose government is at war". The people personally are not at war. Most don't support the war and the President's approval ratings are at an all time low. Plus, it's not like the war is on the homefront. We don't see it everyday except when we choose to watch something about it on the news. Most people feel that it is "out of our hands" seeing as how no matter how many people speak out about not liking the war or the president, it never seems to get the troops home any faster. So, most people just go about their lives. Sad but true.

I'd have to agree with the point YupYup made about our country being at war, and the majority doesn't support it. unless we watch/read news a lot, most people aren't directly affected by it. I have a co-worker whose son came back, and then they turned him around and sent him right back. She barely holds it together worrying about him every day. and my partner's brother-in-law just got out of basic not too long ago from the Air Force reserves. I wouldn't be surprised if he was sent over sometime soon...which is a same as he has 2 children who are less than 3 years old. Just his being away at basic was hard on his wife, who gave birth to their 2nd child while he was away.
