If that is all they know ( poverty ) they count their blessings and are grateful with what they have and happy there is food on the table and a roof over their heads.
-
Certainly! Unfortunately for some people, money doesn't buy happiness. They keep buying things hoping it will please them...they want more and more, and soon there isn't enough for them. People who are less fortunate find joy in every small thing.

The blind appear to be handicapped. But Almighty gives them some extra sensitivity in some other perception organ like ear or touch. Have you not observed this? They live close to nature and enjoy all that is part of it. Their minds breed on what is natural and less on what is artificial. They are probably the nature's ideal for what is living. Property separates people and poverty joins people. People of poverty enjoy more close personal relationships which are highly heartening. Their mutual understanding as a group is incomparable. It is we who are poor in such relationships.

I personally know many poor people that are quite happy. Conversely, I know many rich people who are not . It depends on what you value in life and how you keep score in this game we call life. To some the amount of toys they collect brings them happiness. To some the smile of a loved one or the hug of a child gives them bliss. One costs money the other not. But often that which means the most comes for the smallest of costs and that which gives us the most pain costs us dearly. It is all in the perspective you hold.
-
Because riches are not what is important to them. Maybe heavenly treasure.

Less taxes?? The fact that wealth doesn't equate to happiness.

with love of other people and a small need for material posessions.

I have wondered the same thing, but a big trend I see with these people is religion and love. They think because they have god and have family, they are OK, I feel bad for them because I think restricts their limits on themselves. They just think "I have a place to stay for my kids, family etc. and some food, even though it's a little, I am thankful..." But the reality is that they should have a lot more.

As someone that is almost living in poverty, I feel qualified to answer this. I find happiness in the small things and with being with Arisztid or my family. That is it. I cannot 'be happy,' as it were. I can have happy times, but spend most of it worrying about buying food, medicines, and paying bills. I worry about things that have not yet happened, like car trouble, unexpected illnesses or bills, or what help we get drying up. There is a difference between poor and poverty. Poor still usually have incomes, have homes, and a few small luxuries. Poverty has none of that. I am very poor, but am not actually poverty-stricken, yet. Thanks to Arisztid and my family. Without them, it would be the $173 in food stamps, and that is it. That is the sum-total of my income. I'd like to see very many people live on that. No wonder so many are ending up homeless.

By not holding money as the prime signifier of success in life; by not enslaving themselves to money. By achieving a sense of accomplishment in self-appointed tasks. By living life outside of the crapbox we've come to know and love as television and establishing strong ethical values. By living a clean and healthy life. Money really isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
-
They have their health, They have friends, They are in love. There are a hundred reasons. If all you are missing in life is money, You are very Blessed.
-
Sure that person can be happy, but not as happy as he would be with money.
