While I have a personal fondness for the early 1980s (of course, I was a teenager then...:-P...), I would assert that the stretch between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s would be the best musical era since WWII. That was when the dominant rock and roll bands that most everyone recognizes were at their peak. The list is quite amazing: Beatles The Who Led Zeppelin The Eagles The Rolling Stones Jimi Hendrix ZZ Top Marvin Gaye Janis Joplin etc., etc., etc. I don't know if we'll ever see such a plethora of musical talent again in my lifetime.

I am going to select the most significant period in jazz history from 1944-1955(taking one more year!) There were changes in techniques and attitudes toward audiences. Bop began the first jazz style that was not used for dancing. Therefore, there were great changes in repetoire. Music theory had to be explored and composition adjusted to fit the times. Today Bebop is considered the mainstream of jazz. Notable Bebop musicians include the following: 1. John Coltrane 2. Miles Davis 3. Dizzy Gillespie 4. Stan Getz 5. J.J. Johnson 6. Charles Mingus 7. Thelonious Monk 8. Wes Montgomery 9. Charles Parker 10. Sonny Rollins ll.Charley Christian
