We have one that uses a bag, makes a whirring sound that sends the cats running, and the dog ignores. Not sure of the model or brand. Then again, we have hardwood floors and a few throw rugs, so we really don't use it much. But the cats hate it!

I have a Bissell upright that uses paper bags, and an Electrolux cannister that's older than I am and has a cloth bag.

I have a Hoover vacuum .... and then I have one of the cordless Bissell Brooms and LOVE IT !! +5

Let's just say it's not the right brand, 'cause it doesn't work as well as picking up little pieces of dust and crums from the floor with my hand, which I do on occasion!! I have to buy a new one and face up to the fact that the one I have just doesn't 'cut' it. That probably means spending more money than I had spent on that one, just to get something that isn't fun to use, but that at least will do a better job!! Have any suggestions on a reasonably-priced vacuum that will actually work, and that isn't too terribly loud??...Thx.
