  • You'll need to ask the particular graduate school that you're inquiring about because the Educational Testing Service does not offer an expiration date. Most likely they shouldn't expire after only 5 years, but again, you'll need to ask the graduate school admissions office about this. I hope this helps & good luck with your exam & grad school!
  • Yes, actually, it is true. According to ETS, the organization which designs, administers, manages and reports the GRE, test scores for most subjects are valid for 5 years, and for the TOEFL (English as a Foreign Language) only, 2 years. If you retake your GREs before 5 years is up, then all of your scores including the first set will be reported, but the scores from the first set of exams will still only be valid until 5 years after that original test date. There is more here: http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/pdf/994994.pdf , although the relevant information is buried around pages 8-9.
  • It is true that after 5 years, you cannot get a new "official copy" of your GRE scores, but if you already have a copy or if the school you once attended still has the scores on record, then the Graduate Admissions department from the place to which you are currently applying has every right to accept your old scores! I just found this out myself. I took the GRE in 1996, cannot get my scores from ETS, but the Graduate Department at the local U is happy with my scores and is willing to accept them for admissions. Yay.
