My mom's split pea soup needs no other accompanyments besides a few well placed croutons! Hammy pea goodness!
-
I love roast beef with it (in a separate plate lol). Makes it hearty and my mom used to do that.

A nice loaf of crusty, french bread, is always good with soup. Cornbread with honey would work well as a complement to the savory flavor of the soup - especially if your split pea has bacon ham in it.

G'day ShoppinSheryl, Thank you for your question. How about some croutons and some bread? For something different, you could try a pie floater. That is a meat pie floating in pea soup often with tomato sauce or worcestershire sauce. It is on the heritage register in South Australia. I have attached sources for your reference. How about some whole-grain homemade cheese bread and a large multi-veggie salad with homemade dressing? For dessert, a nice apple crisp (homemade, of course) would go well I think..you could add some whipped cream (not the canister variety, the kind you have to whip yourself) and/or ice cream.

We always make skillet croûtons to put into the soup. When they are hot and sizzling, drop them into the soup and they crackle and pop:-)

A ham and swiss cheese sandwich.

A grilled cheese sandwich goes with everything.

I am assuming there is ham already in the soup. Here in Scotland we call it a ham shank, which has a lovely smokey flavour. For a VEGGIE alternative lumps of smoked cheddar or any smoked cheese and/or smoked paprika gives it that familiar flavour.

Nothing goes well with split pea soup.

We always have warm crusty wheat rolls and a salad when we have split pea soup.
