I usually associate metal music with noise so the louder the growling, the better!

I like Dave Mustaine's singing voice and also his growling. If all he did was growl though, it would get tiresome really fast. Growling should be used sparingly.

Depends on who's doing it. If it's Hammer Fall, singing. Most of the rest of the time, growling.

I have been a metal fan for about 27 years. I like singers like Bon Scott (original AC/DC singer), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickenson... Growling does nothing for me.

Growling, I don't think it would be the same if you could actually understand what they were saying. lol

I prefer actual singing as opposed to growling in most of the music that I listen to. I find the screaming tends to overshadow the actual lyrics, so I'd rather have someone sing passionately than just scream randomly, to be honest.

I would say both because that is what I hear from bands. Growling sure makes a band great but singing will make it better.
