Help answer this question below.

Almost all the frozen fish in my local supermarket comes from China, and yet there is such a shortage of fish in China that a Manitoba First Nations reserve is negotiating with China to catch and then send fish there. I don't get it.

maybe they have an even bigger shortage of money than they do of fish

"Fish" is not a single product: there are many different kinds of fish, some gourmet, some staple. Just as a country may export beef and import pork, it may also export salmon and import tilapia. Also, China is a huge and very populous country - what happens in the south is quite different from what happens in the north.

I have not heard of any food shortages in China. If it is First Nations, I would have thought it was more likely that they were doing a bulk buy of quality salmon.

- The First Nations reserve is in Manitoba and they are trying to actually get a fishing industry going for the sole purpose of exporting to China. And the fish would be 'rough' fish, not high quality luxury salmon.
