• Actually, humans must kill to survive, we kill animals and plants for food everyday. Do you eat? You would be quite happy to sit by and watch a mother and her unborn die because you don't beleive in abortions? How about the ten year old who is raped by her father and gets pregnant, would you see her suffer nine months and try to give birth with an underdeveloped body?

• I think the right to choose is more inclusive to all beliefs: if you are against abortion, then you do not abort. If you think abortion is ok, or need one for any other reason, the you abort. Everyone's happy. Remember that if you ban abortion, people will still have sex, people will still get raped.

• Well, they should be smart enough to keep their legs closed; unfortunately, many of them are not. And they are also not smart enough to use condoms or birth control. So you think the baby they conceive should pay, huh? Because that's what happens much of the time when people bear unwanted children. The women play, but the children really pay; and sometimes with their lives. I think aborting it before it is born into a life of suffering where that child pays for it's mother's and father's mistake, it's probably more humane than what an innocent soul might otherwise suffer.

• I don't think that rape is a good enough reason to murder a completely innocent child who had nothing to do with the rape. I think that the woman who chooses abortion in this case (and in most other cases too) is a selfish person who is only thinking of herself.

I hope it never happens to you so you give birth to a baby you didn't want, didn't ask for and an every day reminder of the man that violated and probably violently raped you; especially if the child happened to look just like your rapist. • I imagine it all the time. No matter how it happened, it would still be my child. I can't murder my child. If you could murder your child great, you are the one who will have to live with the guilt, which you will have if you ever do it. I have yet to meet a woman who has had an abortion, who doesn't live with daily guilt. It is natural to have guilt when you do the wrong thing, even if you didn't think it was wrong. Your subconscious always recognizes wrong deeds and won't let you forget. With so many people in the world who can't have babies of their own, there is always another choice, if you feel that you can't keep a baby, for what ever reason. Adopt the baby to somebody who will love it, if you can't. Murder should never be the only option.

• ScrubJay, sounds to me like you've been brainwashed by the mightier than thou masses; and I am of the opinion (along with many, many more) that since a fetus of say 6 weeks can't live on its own, it's not yet a baby; so therefore abortion is not murder as you put it. So you'll just have to agree to disagree here because no matter what you throw my way you will not convince me otherwise. I've already been there, grew up, got my own brain and now have my own opnions about things as opposed to the opinions people tried to brainwash me with as a youngster.

• ScrubJay, I have a question for you. I had a miscarriage during one of my pregnancies. When I went to the emergency room they told me how sorry they were because they could not save my baby. When I saw the insurance papers they described my miscarriage as a "spontaneous abortion". I was very upset with that description. Do you think my baby murdered itself because it didn't make it to full term?! And do you think I should feel guilt because of it?!!

• No, a spontaneous abortion is completely natural and not caused on purpose by a human intervention. That was rather a dumb question. I'm sorry that happened to you but it wasn't anything you could help, so no need to feel guilty. As for the people that you say had abortions and don't feel guilty, I will say that guilt shows it self in many ways such as depression, drug abuse, alcohol abuse or other problems that keep a person from living a full and happy life. They may not even realize that it is the guilt that is causing the problem because they have shoved the cause of the guilt so far down inside of themselves that they no longer think about it. You can choose to do what you want but that doesn't make it right. And I say you are the brainwashed one.

• To Gingerminx. There are a lot of people who want babies and can't have them. Perhaps the people that are responsible for the unwanted children didn't do the work that it takes to find them a home. I do know that a lot of unwanted children grow up to be very productive and successful adults. I know 3 such people, one was my high school teacher. If they had been aborted because they might be unwanted, they wouldn't be alive today making their contributions to the people and communities around them. We are born into different situations for a reason and many people learn to become stronger for it.

• First of all, it wasn't a dumb question. Basically the same thing that happened to me is what happens to a fetus when an abortion is performed; the only difference is an abortion is a woman's choice to stop her own embryo from becoming a viable fetus. Neither mine nor the fetus of any woman who has decided to abort could live on it's own; and you can not murder something that's not alive. I beg to differ with you saying I'm the brainwashed one. The reason I recognize someone who's been brainwashed like yourself is not just the statements that you make, but the familiarity of the same statements they attempted to brainwash me with until I grew up and developed my own brain, chose to weigh all the information I had before me and come to my own conclusions; rather than those that tried to imbed their opinions in my brain. So, as I said before; you will just have to agree to disagree with me on this one because I believe I'm right about this just as strongly as you believe you are.

• I think that is specific situations with illness, etc., that a "Medical" decision is being made and that is a specific issue outside of a "birth control" issue or a right to choose issue. Having to make a hard medical decision is diffrent than clearly just terminating a life due to convenience.

• Maybe so, but I'm kind of biased for this as I know someone who has been in that situation before. Then again, she had the abortion and her partner (he is the one I know) still hasn't got over having his child killed. A very hard decision to make, I don't think anyone could ever prepare themselves for having to make that kind of decision.

• If you read my profile you will see why I signed up for AB, and why are you shouting?? I disagree with you on this issue, the decision to end a pregnancy is a personal one and it is done for several reasons, such as the pregnancy is threatening the womans life, the developing baby has severe birth defects or/and genetic problems, I have delivered such babies and they die slow and agonising deaths and the mother has to hold him/her in her arms and watch this, how do you think the mother feel? Also abortions are performed to preserve the mental health of the mother such as when pregnancy is a result of rape and incest, again I have had such patients and they are in a state of complete distress to the point of suicide, so why should they be forced to continue with such a pregnancy? Abortion is a very complex issue and I don't think it is right to sit in judgement on these women, it just is not right.

• I too am a Christian and would never tell anyone what is a sin and what isn't because it is not my call to make neither is it yours or anyone elses...we are not God, all of us fall short from the grace of God, it is what is known as being human...if we were all perfect we would not be on earth we would be angels in heaven. Giving our opinions on things is ok, however, the minute we start to label people as committing a sin we then cross over from giving an opinion to being their judge and as a Christian I will not do that, I would much better prefer to remember people in my prayers, sorry if I have missed the ''big picture'' :)

• The matter of the issue is "Is the baby alive?" And if the baby is considered to be alive and to be human then IT DAMN WELL IS OUR BUSINESS! If you were murdering people on the streets, then IT DAMN WELL IS OUR BUSINESS! You need to understand that this is not just your body, this is another being's life on the line. I'm concerned about the babies that aren't being given the chance to live. The SOLE REASON for it being wrong is that its taking another's life, it has nothing to do with some code or guide of how to live your life. So if your saying that its your body and you can do what you want, thats as irrelevant and childish as saying "It's my life and I can do what I want." You CAN'T do whatever you want, unless you also say that people who enjoy raping and murdering have the right to do so. So yes, it is our business. Laws are not random, their for protecting people. Every time I hear somebody argue that point i get so mad, because it's so childish and selfcentered.

• But anyways, here's my viewpoint on the issue: There are several basic concepts of why abortion is okay. The main ones I would say would be age, location, conciousness, and self-reliance. Some people argue that it's okay, because the baby is too young. Thats an easy one to prove wrong, because people are allowed to live at any age. Some people say that the baby is located inside the mother, so the mother makes the choice. Well, they also go on to say that the mother's health is at risk. However, I have researched this matter, and discovered they are actually at greater risk when doing the abortion. Many women become depressed due to abortions, and a lot worse can happen from doing it then not doing it. So obviously their better off having the baby, so even if the baby is located in the mother this is NO reason not to have the baby. Some say that the baby is unconcious,not smart enough, or not self-reliant. Well, people in comas count, and people who are handicapped count.

• Your research is wrong. There most certainly are medical conditions where the mothers health is more at risk if she doesn't have an abortion, for example, an ectopic pregnancy. Many woman are also very relieved by having an abortion and go on to lead perfectly normal lives. it is not obvious that they are better off having the baby at all. You equate abortion with murder but, if abortion is legal then it is not murder.

Murder is a legal term used to describe the unlawful taking of another humans life, so by definition abortion is not murder if it is legal. Now, if there are laws you disagree with, and I agree that there are many bad laws, then you lobby for change. • I actually disagree that right and wrong differs depending on your view. I think that everybody has a moral conscience that tells them exactly what is right and wrong, and people use logics to cover it up. It's how people knew that slavery was wrong, when the black people were considered not to be human. There is a fine line between right and wrong, good and bad. It is not good to have an abortion and stop a baby from maturing and growing up, or having a chance to have a life, even if your "not sure" if it's alive. Even if you ask prochoice people many will say that its not necesarilly good to have an abortion, but women have the "right to choose". If the result is not good, and it is a direct choice, then it is a wrong choice. Therefore, abortion is wrong, and our consciousnesses tell us that. Everybody who has ever had an abortion cannot say that they didn't feel something in their conscionce. If right and wrong is based on "opinion" and intellect, then there is no such thing.

• Well actually right and wrong do differer depending on your own point of view. You beleive abortion to be wrong, I do not. If I said going to church is wrong would that make it wrong for you as well? If I said that allowing children to stay up late is wrong would that make it wrong for you as well? Right and wrong are subjective. Who said the result of an abortion was not good? Just because someone may grieve over the lose after wards, not to mention hormone imbalances, doesn't mean the result wasn't good, after all, it is what they have chosen is right for them.

• Murder is a legal term, if abortion was illegal it would be murder, but it is not illegal. No one is murdering babies, which by the way is illegal. They are removing a fetus. And since I have been in the position of medical complications that put my unborn at risk and since I have known some people who have had some terrible things done to them guess what? Shit happens, and that includes abortion and that is takign life as it comes. So go find yourself another soap box to stand on and when you find you have to choose your life or your unborns, when you find yourself violently raped over several hours at the age of 13 and end up pregnant then come talk to me.

I actually thought this argument was pretty good, although calling out people in answers is like you did is pretty cowardly.

• I dont want to teach anyone, I was being bombastic in response to his follish follow up. The reason I poseted under here was two reasons. The Comment field kept timing out, and two there wasnt enough text space. I went on the offensive when I was attacked. I never instigate the attack. I fee; that when someone makes a flip response trying to "act" cavilier that it warranted something back. Im not really sure of myself on anything on this topic as I stated. Its probably an impossible to determine what is right and wrong at least Im not smart enough to make that decision. Thats why I feel the only way around it is to educate, and not attack women that have to make such a devestating decision. I would have much prefered and argument that makes a point to open a dialogue instead of just a juvenille response like he had. but that is typical of someone who wants to act like they are right but has no answers.

• Fair enough, I'm not going to argue your views. In my opinion, as far as abortion goes, I think people's convictions and trying to influence the women in question is just as sickening as anything else. I mean nobody seems to care about her, they just want to be right. They probably don't care about the baby, either. I highly doubt Galooly is like that though, and behind his smartass responses, he's rather intelligent and more than caring. Just saying that if you're so tolerant about whatever people want to do with their unborn babies, that this little comment he left shouldn't have bothered you. :/

• I guess, i was expecting an inteligent respsonse from someone who is supposed to be intelligent.. I did scan some of his other posts today and he does appear completely anti-abortion. With that said, his comments seem to display exactly what you you say in your post. That its just about being right with no care for the women that is why I posed the only way to solve this is via successful education. Thats the only way both side will ever be happy. My feeling in life is people should do what they want to do so long as it doesnt harm others. (I may expect a hit back on this saying that this is killing life) BUT, that exact point of life is still up for debate so it cannot be tested at this time. but we could go back and forth on the socioeconomic issues of unwanted children and if you know someone would be a killer (or a hitler) would you expose of them, but then again this is too vast for this forum. I guess I expect more from people who "should" know better and thats what bugged me.

• It's a very heart-rending article. It focuses on deaths of mothers which could have been avoided had abortions been provided. What it doesn't define is the number of deaths that would have occurred had abortions not been performed.
  Babies' lives vs. Mothers' lives and convenience.
  I can understand the life-threatening part, but the tendency for abortions to be performed for the convenience of the mother and family is too great to be ignored, and a life is lost.
  Either way, death is possible, but with abortions it is absolutely certain.
  Charities are very much available for adopting unwanted or unsupportable babies.
  If anything, the article is proof of the negative backlash of a zero-tolerance po;icy regarding unwanted children. A little leeway for medical emergencies would make a lot more sense, I believe.

• Okay..you have a point..BUT..not a great one..there are a blue million means of birth control and yet still people get themselves pregnant and find it a convinient form of birth control to just kill the baby..And well if ya live in the U.S..it seems the taxpayers will be footing the bill for that..this is progress?
