I don't have experience of them as house plants - they just grow in my garden with minimal maintenance. I would say that the main thing would be to not over water them, as they grow naturally in places with very little rainfall.

I have some growing in a pot on my front porch. I ignore them almost completely. I only water them about once or twice in 6 months. They grow like crazy.

Plenty of sun, let the soil dry out between waterings. Aloe vera is a succulent plant, so reduce the watering during the winter (for temperate climates). If you want a very full plant, break off pieces regularly (to promote more growth). If you kill this plant, hang up your gardening gloves forever.
