  • September and early October, as it is still warm enough, and attractions are far less crowded than in the summer months.
  • April, by far (at least for Rome). It's especially nice if you can catch the two annual days of good weather. Never go in August, though. Everyone gets August off and it's like a ghost town except for the touristy places. The weather is abysmal too.
