  • You could do it two ways, either by listing author and page number parenthetically, e.g. (Jefferson, 3) or providing Jefferson's name in the preceding sentence and just having (3) at the end of the cite, e.g. "In Jefferson's "Declaration of Independence" ... (3). Per MLA rules, the sentence and cite must include author, source and adequate context.
