Ladies: would you travel alone at night on public transport if you want to go to a concert/activity and no-one can take you? If so, how do you protect yourself?

I would probably take a cab home, take public transport, if it wasn't too late, to the event, or not go at all if it wasn't absolutely neccessary.

If I was going to a concert by myself I'd take the subway and I have a small thing of mace on my keyring. I don't find it very scary though so I don't really feel the need to protect myself. It also depends on how old you are, if you are under 18 I probably wouldn't advise it.

I carry a very large hatpin...about 4 inches long...pinned under the lapel of my jacket. You can get them at antique stores. Easy to slip out if I'm feeling uncomfortable...and 4 inches can do a lot of damage.

when i travel anywhere alone, i keep my ears open to whats goin on around me. but i don't make eye contact with wierd looking people if i don't want to be bothered.
