Does anyone else remember prayer in Public School? I think it was the Our Father after the Pledge of Allegiance?

I remember praying aloud in school before class every morning until about the 5th grade. I went to a school in Louisiana and a lot of the kids would gather under the flag pole before class every day and say a prayer.

We said the Sh'ma in school every morning. I saidthat prayer every day from the ages of 5 to 13, and I can remember past the first line now.....

Yes I do. That was exactly the prayer we said after the Pledge of Allegiance.

Yes but then I went to Religious schools in the main, and had full morning prayers in Chapel before school started.

Not in my school system, and I started Kindergarten in 1964.

I started school in 1959, and have never said a prayer in school.

Nope, apparently I’m too young for that. Either that, or it’s just that I grew up in the New York City area and religious beliefs were anything but homogenous. (We did have prayers at graduation, though!)
