My first instinct is to say "hell no." But I guess it would depend on who, and in what circumstance. I think there are some situations in which I would.

I took a ticket for my mother so she wouldn't get a DUI. Stupid I know..

It would depend on who it was and what they did. If they committed a crime, a SERIOUS crime, such as burgulary, armed robbery, or murder...no I wouldn't unless under very specific circumstances. If they were forced to participate, under extreme duress, if it were an accident or I knew for certain that they did not do it and was going to be charged anyway. And then only for my kids and certain other family members. Other than that, if you break into someone's home and steal from them, rob someone at gunpoint or just plain murder someone.., it would break my heart, but kids or not, they're on their own.

No, first of all I consider nearly all court cases moot. I said NEARLY all, for the most part we don't need to prosecute human behavior in courts. I don't go along with all this criminal justice nonsense, if someone does me wrong shame on them, they learn immediately. I try to do no harm until then. I cannot agree with the court in order to save another from it's wrath. I oppose the court system generally and see no need in allowing one more body to go into it only to never emerge whole again. I do not consider taking the heat for someone an act of chivalry, but rather an act of stupidity. Court is for robberies, murders, and rapes, (unjustified violence)

I agree with Shelby. My first inclination at hearing the question is to say 'no', especially because it wouldn't be totally truthful to accept blame for what someone else has done. Then i gave the matter a bit more thought. This is exactly what Jesus Christ did for all of us. We have all committed crimes against the Sovereign of the universe and deserve to 'take the heat' for our wrongs. Because Jehovah knows that we are imperfect and can't be blameless he sent Jesus who willingly came to earth to be convicted and punished for wrongs he didn't commit. This is the Bible teaching of the ransom sacrifice. Jesus is called a 'corresponding ransom' because he bought back what our first parent Adam discarded, namely a blameless standing before God. This is an overly simplified explanation of things, but it makes me think that under the right conditions, i might take the heat to save someone else from punishment. The question is very good and deserves exploration. A good answer will not be a simple yes or no. Thanks for bringing it up.

Been there, done that, got the Tshirt and wore it :)

Yes I would. I would gladly go to prison in place of my brother or either of my children provided it was not for paedophilia (or other child related crimes), random murder or rape.
-
I have done that for my ex wife. Silly me.
-
No way...

Depends on the person, depends on the crime. Generally though, probably not. I believe that if you do the crime and you get caught, you do the time.

There is nothing I wouldnt do for my son. I'd take the heat for him.

In 1973 I was arrested and eventually convicted of a felony drug charge that I didn't comit. The police had no idea who the guilty person was, or that she had anything to do with it. Her name was never mentioned during the entire episode. She was my best friend and drummer's sister. She was single with a one year old, and I was not about to say "I didn't do it, she did." That is just not done where I come from. I spent two months in a county jail working on a fire crew, and when I got out, she threw a really nice party for me.
