You've heard the expression "the wheel that squeaks get oiled"? The wheels that run well and quietly get no attention unless/until they fail. It is normal to give attention to the problem areas..just as a child with "special needs" will get more attention because he/she needs it, the troubled child gets more attention because he/she needs the help. :)

Rosie's answer is spot on. No prizes for being the quite do-gooder. Either accept that for what it is, or make some noise. Recognize that you do not need to be BAD to make noise.

No, I don't think good, decent people of any age get the recognition they deserve. Being "bad" puts the spotlight on a teenager so a certain celebrity element is attached to that. Those teenagers who just go to class, do their homework, stay out of trouble and generally do what their parents ask SHOULD get the spotlight, but the adults are often to busy putting out fires to take the time. I think often these good kids are taken for granted. "Why should you get respect for doing what's expected of you?" This is what teaches a "good" kid that respecting yourself for making positive choices is the best reward of all.
