The US passed a resolution or the like condemning the Armenian genocide. The Turkish government's filled with right-wing loonies that Kemal would be embarrassed of.

G'day Antigone Rising, Thank you for your question. The Ambassador has been recalled for consultations because of concerns about the possible classification of the Armenian Massacre during World War I as genocide in a House of Representatives resolution. It probably was but the Turks don't like to think of it that way. It has the possibility of causing real difficulty in the Middle East so hopefully calmer heads will prevail. I have attached sources for your reference. Turkey recalls ambassador over genocide resolution. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/11/us.turkey.armenians/index.html - - - - [Here is an EXCERPT from the website for you] - - - - WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Turkey on Thursday recalled its ambassador to the United States and warned of repercussions in a growing dispute over congressional efforts to label the World War I era killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turkish forces "genocide." The U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs passed the measure 27-21 Wednesday. President Bush and key administration figures lobbied hard against the measure, saying it would create unnecessary headaches for U.S. relations with Turkey. Turkey -- now a NATO member and a key U.S. ally in the war on terror -- accepts Armenians were killed but call it a massacre during a chaotic time, not an organized campaign of genocide. The full House could vote on the genocide resolution as early as Friday. A top Turkish official warned Thursday that consequences "won't be pleasant" if the full House approves the resolution. "Yesterday some in Congress wanted to play hardball," said Egemen Bagis, foreign policy adviser to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "I can assure you Turkey knows how to play hardball." .

the congressmen in the us wanted to pass the resolution bc there is a significant armenian population in the US, so they wanted to simply please the constituents but it did not get passed bc turkey would be pissed, and that is why turkey called off the ambassodor bc turkey said it would not let the US use its airbases or air space if the US passed it, just as it has done with france. so the US could not and never can pass it unless they are stupid bc armenia has like 1 million people and even get their electricity from turkey while turkey has 50 million people and the 2nd or 3rd (i forget now but either one) biggest army in NATO also Turkey is one of the biggest allies of the US in the middle East. thus 1 mil against 50 mil? not very reasonable huh? plus the genocide it self is still questioned.. research it but do not just go to armenian websites! bc that would obviously be biased, you must always see both sides of an argument
