  • Most home-made furniture polish seems to be made from a mixture of some sort of oil - olive oil being the most common and lemon juice or vinegar. Normally the polish contains more oil than acid, but this link puts the proportions the other way round: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/alternative-furniture-polish.html
  • Vinegar and dilute with water brings furniture up nice and shiney, and your windows gleem.
  • I use mineral oil (just a few drops goes a long way) with stunning results. And who'd ever know?
  • The 'lemon' scent in many commercial oils is actually lemon balm, which grows as a weed in many places, or easy to cultivate, even in arid places. Also, essential oils, by the drop or 2, may be added to spread fragrance around.
