I was walking home from work because my car was in the shop. It had been a hard day, so I was a bit cranky. I remember I had just walked into my neighborhood, which is known for it's really big trees. I looked up at the sky, and the full moon, half way up in the sky was sitting there. It was in between two trees, with stars surrounding it, and the night sky was so dark blue, and the moon was so bright. I remember standing there for 5 minutes or so, just taking in the beauty, the breeze, and the sight

Several times - once when I was at the Huntington Library in Pasadena. When going through their art gallery I saw the painting "Pinkie" for the first time and my mind simply shut down for maybe ten minutes as I gazed at it. I had never seen anything (man made) that left me so totally awake and present, yet without thought. I couldn't take my eyes off it. Finally, mind started up as I tried to "analyze" what was being observed. That's when reality gave way to mental interpretation and I became "lost" again in the mind. Nature has many wonders that can do that for me. When I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time I was equally so awestruck that all mental activity ceased. Another time mind dropped away while looking at the play of light on some trees across the street. Fortunately, that happens daily now; I can simply stop and be present now with anything at all and the mind melts away - this is wonderful; every moment is like zen meditation. Mind only comes in now when there is a need for it, like writing this post.
